A movement of everyday heroes.
We are a Nigerian foundation working alongside communities to unlock education, health, leadership, and economic opportunity.

Empowering individuals. Transforming communities.
To empower individuals and transform communities through education, health, leadership, and economic opportunity — working hand-in-hand with the people we serve.
Our vision
A society where every person has the opportunity to live as a hero — for themselves, their family, and their community.
Our mandate
Design community-led programs that produce measurable outcomes, build local leadership, and ensure transparent stewardship of every resource.
Born of service, grown by community.
SDLHF was founded on a conviction that lasting change is not delivered — it is co-created. What began as a small circle of volunteers has become a national network of programs, publications, and partnerships reaching every corner of Nigeria.
Our name, Social Development for Living Heroes, reflects a belief that heroism is not reserved for the few. It lives in the teacher who stays late, the mother who builds a business, the youth who organises his peers, and the community that rallies around its own.

The first circle
A handful of volunteers began meeting under a tree in Rumosi, Port Harcourt Nigeria, listening to community needs and organizing free skills aquisition.
Skills Acquisition Training, Abonema
SDLHF held a program "Money Magnet" in Abonema, which saw over 200 participants learning different skills such as baking, wig making, makeup, soap making and CPR training from The Red Cross Society.
- The Changers, Mentorship Seminar with Free Skills Acquisition - Pad-A-Girl, Skills and Mentorship Program
The Changers was a mentorship programme that brought together over 700 participants from more than four communities across Port Harcourt. The one-day mentorship and empowerment session focused on equipping young people with the knowledge, mindset, and inspiration needed to make positive changes in their lives and communities. Following the mentorship session, SDLHF organized a two-day free skills acquisition training at Darick Polo, Okrika Waterfront, Port Harcourt, with approximately 200 participants in attendance. The training provided participants with practical skills designed to improve their capacity for self-reliance and economic opportunity. SDLHF also implemented the Pad-a-Girl Campaign at Abonema Girls Secondary School, Abonema, Rivers State. The initiative combined menstrual health support with skills acquisition training, empowering young girls with practical knowledge and skills while encouraging confidence, self-development, and a positive outlook for their future. The
- Back-To-School Campaign, Jakande, Lagos - Chrismas-A-Plate, Ilassan, Lagos - Food Drive, Ilassan, Lagos
In April 2023, SDLHF organized a food drive for 50 residents of a shanty community in Ilassan, providing essential food items to support families and individuals in the community. In September of the same year, SDLHF organized a Back-to-School Campaign, Jakande bringing together over 300 participants, including children and their parents. The outreach featured a parenting session that provided parents with practical guidance on supporting their children’s education, development, and wellbeing. To further support families as they prepared for the new school term, SDLHF distributed essential educational and household items, including writing materials, school bags, stockings, shoes, and food items to participating families. The initiative was designed to ease some of the financial burden of returning to school while encouraging parents and children to approach the new academic year with renewed commitment and confidence. In December of the same year, SDLHF returned to the community to host its Christmas-a-Plate Outreach, bringing together 250 participants to celebrate the festive season. The initiative provided food and shared the joy of Christmas with residents, reinforcing SDLHF’s commitment to supporting underserved communities.
- Patriotism Seminar Port Harcourt. - Caterpillar Ghetto Outreach
In commemoration of Nigeria’s Independence, SDLHF organized a patriotism seminar in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The event brought together over 300 students, providing them with an opportunity to learn about patriotism, responsible citizenship, and their role in building a better Nigeria. In this same year, SDLHF also organized two community outreaches in Caterpillar Ghetto, reaching over 450 participants. These initiatives included a food drive and the Christmas-a-Plate Outreach, providing food and support to members of the community during the festive season. The Back to School Campaign, Obalende had over 200 participants, including parents and children. As part of the outreach, writing materials and food items were distributed, while financial support was provided towards the payment of school fees for selected children. Parents also participated in a dedicated parental guidance session focused on supporting their children’s education, character development, and future. The children were encouraged to take their education seriously, develop strong values, and demonstrate patriotism by investing in themselves, acquiring knowledge and skills, and becoming responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to the development of Nigeria.
